Hermes

Artworks

Hermes, the Greek god of commerce, thieves, and travelers, was also the messenger of the gods in Greek mythology. He was an important figure in ancient Greek religion and mythology, often depicted with winged shoes or hat and always with his iconic curly hair.

This modern interpretation is crafted in concrete and mounted on a black steel stand. Traditionally, such busts would be made from materials such as marble or bronze. However, using concrete gives the piece a unique, contemporary feel while remaining true to the beauty of the classical form.

This piece was made using a novel brush-on concrete technique and is thus a one-off experimental work. The technique was applied to capture all the intricate details of the mold while also obtaining a less monochromatic appearance than what concrete usually offers. This approach focuses attention on material choice and texture rather than the bust as just ornate decoration.
